365 Writing Prompts - Day 40
Feb. 9th, 2017 06:26 pmFebruary 9, 2017 Why I'm Not A Fan of:
I first wandered over to Facebook in 2008 where I found a lot of people I'd lost touch with, family members in other states, those stupid games like Farmland, etc. It was fun and exciting catching up with everyone, finding out about their lives, what they're doing now, etc.
Then, people began sharing silly memes or inspirational images from other sites and soon there were only a few original posts to be found. If, Heaven forbid, someone did make a post on a topic they felt strongly about, it turned into a comment war. Other people were ugly and insulting, as if that would make the poster change his/her mind.
Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a tree-hugging, singing-songs-around-the-campfire, can't-we-all-just-get-along, peace-loving, hippy freak, and have been since I learned to walk and talk. I can express a difference of opinion without being rude or belittling. Bullies bug the ever-lovin' crap outta me!
When 2015 rolled around and the presidential hopefuls threw their hats in the ring, everything went to Hell in a handbasket. The Trump supports came out with guns blazing. The liberals refused to take it lying down. There were times I could almost imagine my laptop catching fire or exploding.
I believe what bothered me most (and still does), is that Trump ran his entire campaign on fear and hatred, and half of America, including members of my family and friends I've known most of my life!, were okay with it.
Now, there's the whole "cry babies", "snowflakes", "he won, get over it", "he is your president" horse sh*t that just won't stop.
Here, I can speak my mind and no one fights with me. The people here are much more civilized and I truly appreciate that. From now on, I'll visit Facebook, check in with family and friends, but I'll stay here.
