archersangel: the first of the flock (dreamsheep)

from amazon (book 1);
When Prudence Alessandra Maccon Akeldama ("Rue" to her friends) is bequeathed an unexpected dirigible, she does what any sensible female under similar circumstances would do -- she christens it the Spotted Custard and floats off to India. Soon, she stumbles upon a plot involving local dissidents, a kidnapped brigadier's wife, and some awfully familiar Scottish werewolves. Faced with a dire crisis (and an embarrassing lack of bloomers), Rue must rely on her good breeding -- and her metanatural abilities -- to get to the bottom of it all. . .

this is a sequel series to her The Parasol Protectorate books that feature the children of some of the characters of those books.
overall i was very lukewarm on the whole series. i don't regret reading them, but I just feel like the sequel series (next gen series, really. the characters from the first series only have guest roles.) was not needed. like many sequels.
and when characters from the previous series do show up, they feel like parodies of their former incarnations.

minor issues; the author uses "bedsit" to describes where a character is living. the definition is a single rented room that serves as both a bedroom and a living area, often featuring basic cooking facilities while sharing a bathroom with other rooms. but then she mentions a library, a hall & hints at a kitchen as a servant is going to make tea at one point.
has a character "chivvy" up to someone, implying that they walked up quickly when the word means to persistently nag, badger, or urge someone to do something they do not want to do, or to hurry them along.

1. What chores did you have to do, growing up?
there were none that we "had to" do. just help when & where possible; fold & put way clothes, clean the kitchen, put away groceries after shopping.

2. Which chore do you hate doing the most?
all of them.

3. Which chore do you actually enjoy doing?
none of them.

4. Did you receive an allowance when you were growing up?
no. we were too poor. sometimes our mom would buy us a candy bar, or ice cream novelty.

5. What was (or is) your favorite subject in school?

the joke answer is recess. there is not really a serious one.
